Tips if You Have to Remove Food from Between Your Teeth
Posted on 9/21/2021 by Fairmount Dental Center
Food stuck in between your teeth can cause several problems. When faced with such a situation, you need to find ways of safely dislodging the stuck food particles. How you do it is important because some methods can only worsen the situation. Here are tips you can use to remove food from between your mouth.
Flossing
If you have stuck food between your teeth, flossing can help remove it safely. We recommend using waxed floss because it can easily slide in and out your teeth and dislodge the food particles. Waxed floss is also ideal because it can easily move in tight places compared to a non-waxed one. For effective use, you should move the floss around the stuck food particle to remove it. If you notice any pain when flossing, it could be a sign of a dental infection. In that case, come to our offices immediately for treatment.
Use a Toothbrush
You can also use a toothbrush to try and remove stuck food in between your teeth. For this purpose, you should use a soft-bristled toothbrush that can easily penetrate tight spaces and push out stuck particles. If the removal process is successful, you should apply some toothpaste to your toothbrush and brush thoroughly. This will help get rid of the remaining food particles.
Water Flossers
Irrigators or water flossers can loosen food particles if flossing doesn't fix the problem. However, you need to be careful when using a water flosser because it can cause damage when used inappropriately. If you are not sure how to use it, call our offices for instructions. When used appropriately, a water flosser will safely dislodge stuck food particles and help keep your teeth clean. It is also a good way of cleaning your gums. Contact our offices for more information on how to remove stuck food particles.
