Tips for Keeping Food from Getting Stuck In Between Your Teeth
Posted on 5/10/2021 by Office
Though we all get food stuck between our teeth at one time or another, it is a nuisance that you should avoid. Food particles, when left in your teeth, will feed with the bacteria in your mouth. The bacteria will then produce acid that will cause tooth decay and eat away at your enamel. Therefore, getting rid of the food stuck between your teeth is essential.
Rinse after Eating
To dislodge any food particles in your mouth after eating, take some water and swish it around your mouth immediately after eating. The longer you leave the food in your teeth, the harder it becomes to remove it. Swishing water will help rinse your teeth and mouth and remove all food particles right away.
It is best to avoid using wooden toothpicks to dislodge food stuck in between your teeth. These toothpicks can easily break into splinters and injure your gums. Try to carry some dental floss with you wherever you go. If you know exactly where the food is stuck, you can easily dislodge it with dental floss. Flossing also helps to clean in between your teeth more effectively, and it is a routine that you should consider maintaining whether you have something stuck in between your teeth or not.
Brush after Every Meal
Our professionals recommend that you brush your teeth after every meal to get rid of any food particles left in your teeth. Some food particles need an extra push to dislodge and just rinsing or swishing water may not work. If this is the case, brush your teeth gently to get rid of the particles.
Fix the Damaged Teeth
Cracked teeth and cavities are good at holding food particles. Getting rid of food lodged in the holes in your teeth is not easy. You can easily hurt your gum while trying to pick out the food, which can be quite painful. To avoid this, make an appointment with us and fix the damage to your teeth immediately.
