The Dangers of Drinking Only Bottled Water

Posted on 7/23/2020 by Fairmount Dental Center
The Dangers of Drinking Only Bottled WaterFor a long time, dental care professionals have advocated for people to drink water when they are thirsty, as opposed to soft drinks or juice. That has been mainly because of the damage those types of drinks tend to cause due largely in part to their acidic and sugary nature. However, it has come to light that not all water is good for your dental health. Researchers have found out that only drinking bottled water can be detrimental to your oral health, and here's why.

Minerals

Tap water has specific minerals dissolved in it that greatly helps people keep their teeth healthy and strong, which in turn, helps keep cavities at bay. One of these minerals is fluoride. During the distillation process, most of beneficial minerals found in natural water are eliminated from it, making the water pure. Unfortunately, our bodies need some of these minerals. As such, people who drink only bottled water are more likely to need daily supplements to help counteract this effect. This is also why virtually all municipalities add fluoride into the water to help aid in the population's oral health. This can be traced as far back as the early 1940's and has been going on ever since.

Paying More For What?

The water that you get from your tap has passed the same FDA regulations as the bottled water that you may like to purchase. The difference is, your municipality does not have to charge as much for distribution, bottling, marketing, so on and so forth. At the end of the day, you are paying more money for water that has few benefits to your body, which does not include the environmental impacts pollution from manufacturing the bottles, transportation, and so on).
The next time you decide to reach for a bottle of water, ask yourself if that is really what is best for not only your oral health, but your entire body and the environment.
