The New Year is a great time to reevaluate your habits and what you are doing to care for your body. This includes the teeth, and if you want to have a healthier mouth in 2016, consider adopting one of these tooth-friendly New Year's resolutions. Brush for the Full Two MinutesDentists recommend that you brush for at least two minutes every time that you pick up your brush. This year, set a timer or download an app on your phone that will help you ensure you are meeting this two-minute goal for optimal oral health.Floss Each DayThere aren't a lot of people out there who would say that they enjoy flossing, and for this reason, many people don't do it. In fact, only about 13% of people claim to floss their teeth daily. If you aren't in that small percentage, consider adopting a new habit to floss every day this year. You will have cleaner teeth while reducing your risk of decay and freshening your breath.Stop SnackingIf you are a grazer, you could be causing some damage to your teeth. Snacking in between meals can harm your waistline and your teeth, as your mouth will constantly be covered in bacteria and acid. They will have all day to multiply in order to create plaque that will ultimately damage your teeth.Quit SmokingYou probably have a lot of reasons why you want to quit smoking in 2016, but be sure to add the dental benefits to your list. Smoking drastically boosts your risk of suffering from gum disease. This means that it is bad for your natural teeth, but it can also be extremely dangerous if you have dental implants.Start the New Year off right in 2016. Set a New Year's resolution that will lead to better oral health this year. |
