When it comes to having any sort of dental work done, you need to make sure that you are taking the best care of your mouth. This means being able to get a filling and then care for the filling right after it is done. By not following the directions provided by the dentist, you might end up losing that filling in the long run. You need to make sure to give it time to sit and set in the mouth before it is removed from inside the tooth. Care Instructions for a New FillingWhen you have a new filling, the dentist will most likely give you information on what you need to do to care for it. You should follow the directions that are given closely. The first thing to consider doing is making sure that you do not eat on that side for at least 12 to 24 hours after having the filling done. It needs to cure and set. If it is not hard when you chew, this can actually cause the filling to come out leaving the tooth exposed. Crunchy, hard items and sticky substances should also be refrained from for at least 48 hours. You should keep in mind that the area that you got the filling in might also be a bit sensitive for a bit once the numbing wears off. Take care after leaving the office not to bite your cheek or tongue and wait until you have full feeling to drink or eat anything. If you think you need a filling, make sure to give us a call.
