Having cracked teeth can be asymptomatic and nothing to worry about, or it can be an incredibly painful experience. Where your mouth stands on that range depends on what type of cracks your teeth have.
Some cracks are minimal, and not more than just an eyesore for those who know they are there. Other cracks require the tooth to be extracted in order to keep your mouth healthy. If you have a dental crack, you need to make sure you speak with your dentist about it as soon as you can. Talking with Your Dentist About Dental CracksAs soon as you notice a dental crack, it is best to call your dentist's office. They can have you come in and check out the tooth that has the crack. If the tooth is nothing to worry about, they will tell you so. However, if the tooth is a problem, they will tell you that as well and then they will discuss with you what type of treatment options you have.If your tooth has a minor crack, they may want to bond the tooth to protect it. If the crack is significant, a dental crown may be the perfect answer to help protect the integrity of that specific tooth. However, if your crack has completely severed your tooth into two separate pieces, chances are, you will need to have that tooth removed. Using a tooth with a crack can cause the crack to get bigger, which is why it is so important to contact your dentist at the first notification you have of the crack. Let them see what is going on and treat it quickly so it doesn't get worse. The only way for your dentist to know what treatment options will work best is for them to see the actual tooth in question.
