Talk with Your Dentist
Let your dentist know how you feel. They can help, but they only know that they need to if you tell them. Explain your fears and how you feel, and let them talk with you about what is being done each step of the way.Know Your Procedure Before You Go In
Part of being afraid of the dentist for most people is the fear of the unknown. If you aren't sure what is going on, find out from your dentist beforehand what needs to be done and look it up. Even if you only get the general gist, it can still help calm your fears.
Practice Meditation Before You Go In
Being calm before you step foot in the dentist's office can go a long way towards keeping you calm in their chair. Take the time to calm down prior to going in by way of meditation. Then, while you are there, practice the breathing techniques from your meditation. That will help bring the relaxation back to you.
Your dentist understands the fears their patients have, but they only know to help those that ask for it. Say something to your dentist and take their advice on ways they suggest to remain calm. Going to the dentist is nothing to fear. It is their job to help you achieve the greatest levels of health possible.
