Are You Still Flossing Back and Forth?

Millions of people brush and floss their teeth every day, but they're not getting the most out of their oral hygiene routine. That's because the traditional back-and-forth flossing technique only cleans about 60% of the surfaces of your teeth!

The New Way to Floss

The good news is that there's a better way to floss. It's called the "C" method and it's much more effective at removing plaque and bacteria from your teeth. Here's how to do it:

1.  Take about 18 inches of floss and wrap it around your middle fingers, leaving a few inches of floss exposed.
2.  Hold the floss taut with your thumbs and forefingers and gently slide it between two teeth.
3.  Curve the floss around the tooth in a "C" shape and slide it up and down the side of the tooth.
4.  Repeat this process for the other side of the tooth.
5.  Once you've flossed between two teeth, move on to the next two teeth.

The C method is more effective than the back-and-forth method because it cleans all five surfaces of each tooth. This includes the areas between your teeth, which are difficult to reach with a toothbrush.
