White Bread and Crackers Can Cause Damage to Your Teeth

Posted on 12/19/2022 by Fairmount Dental Center
White Bread and Crackers Can Cause Damage to Your TeethDentists recommend regular flossing and brushing of teeth. However, some foods are known to damage a person's dental formula. It is important for people to control what they eat in order to have a healthy dental formula while also maintaining oral health.

How Does White Bread and Crackers affect the Mouth?

White bread and crackers are in the group of prominent carbohydrates. This group also includes French fries, potato chips, and cakes. After consuming these foods, they get to be broken down by the teeth. Digestion starts and they get to be broken down into sugars. There are bacteria in the mouth that relies on the sugars produced in order to eat. The sugars are fed on by the bacteria in the mouth. This results in the release of lactic acid and fermentation occur. Having acid in the mouth can increase the chances of bacteria occupying the mouth and consuming a tooth's enamel. This can lead to erosion of the enamel.

What are the Dangers Posed by Intake of White Bread and Crackers?

Most carbohydrates including white bread and crackers risk damaging the outer part of a tooth. Lactic acid produced during digestion in the mouth aids in the erosion process. The lactic acid found in the mouth causes erosion of the enamel and exposes some parts of a tooth and the inner soft tissues.

People should be aware of these risks and take immediate action to prevent parts or the whole tooth from getting damaged. Consumption of white bread and crackers arouses bacteria which causes cavities, also called tooth decay. People are advised to always visit us to get a checkup on the well-being of their teeth. It is recommended by dentists to have a healthy diet, and floss and brush teeth daily, preferably twice. You can call us to understand better foods to take daily instead of consuming white bread.
